Silverton Football

Just a quick note this week.  The Silverton High School varsity football team played an awesome game Thursday night.  We beat #3 Corvallis without our starting QB and had two goal line stands that were incredible. Matthew, our oldest son, finally is back playing after being out with a knee injury for a couple of weeks. It was a huge game and an awesome WIN. Great job guys.

Summer in Arizona

Shannon and I just returned from a very HOT Arizona.  I have had my eye on a great continuing education course down there and finally the stars lined up for us to get down to it.  It was a great course dealing with developing beautiful smiles.

We were absolutely enthralled with all the things to do down in the Scottsdale and Sedona areas but realized it was simply too hot to do anything that was not indoors.  So I happily went to class while Shannon found relief in the large shopping malls of Scottsdale.  Now I know why all you snowbirds go in the winter and come home in the spring!

We found several things that we would like to go back and do when it is a little cooler.  I think we will try timing for the next course during the cooler months so we can get out and do a little more.  We hope you all had a wonderful summer and wish you students good luck with the new school year.  Have a great Day!!!

Summer Fun

Just returned from a family vacation/reunion.  We had a great time on the lake.  The kids enjoyed spending time with cousins and grandparents.  We had an opportunity to go out and waterski for a day, so I couldn't resist throwing on a ski and showing the kids what dad could do!!!  Well unfortunately my body didn't show up for the entertainment.  I did get up and skied a little until the waves were too much and down I went.  I thought maybe I'd give it another shot but in the process I realized things weren't quite right with my back. Apparently the muscles that use to work quite nicely thank you very much aren't quite what they use to be.  I spent the rest of the trip moaning and groaning, asking the kids to "pick up my shoes", "will you put my socks on" etc, and popping ibuprofen by the bottle.  Needless to say I have decided to put up the slalom ski for good.  I guess I need to find a new, more leisurely water sport to fill the summer time.  If there are any sugestions let me know.  Isn't it fun to get older.  Hope you all are having a great summer.

Tragic Passing

Just a note to extend our thoughts and condolences to the family and friends of Randy and Brenda Burningham.  What a terrible tragedy  for a respected dentist and family in our community.  We have their family in our thoughts and prayers and wish the best for them at this time of mourning the passing of Randy and Brenda.

New Laser Technology

For you tech junkies we just added some new COOL technology at the office.  I've wanted to get a laser for several years now but was unsure of which technology to go with so I decided to attend a recent course on lasers.  As a result we purchased a Discus NV microlaser.  We are excited at some of the new things we can offer to you as our patients.

We have treated several patients already for sensitive teeth.  We have had remarkable success addressing those sensitive areas.  We also can treat cold sores and canker sores before they get out of control.  As soon as you feel the onset of a cold sore we simply have you into the office and run the laser over the area for 1-2 minutes.  The procedure requires no anesthetic, is painless, and reduces or eliminates considerably the discomfort and time of healing associated with the sore.

We also are able now to provide you with some exciting new treatment methods for periodontal care.  Studies are showing healing in deeper pockets that we never thought was possible several years ago.  We also are able to "sterilize" pockets with the laser to help in providing the best environment for healthy gum tissue.  We also are able to do some minor surgical procedures now with  little to no post operative discomfort.

We are grateful to each of you for the trust you place in our staff to provide for your dental health.  We feel like this addition to our practice will allow us to continue to serve you with the most up to date technology and the highest quality of care.  Feel free to give us a call if you have questions regarding any of these new treatments.

Our New Web Site

The SUN has finally shown it's face.  We here at Willis Dental are excited for the official start of summer.  Several staff members have children playing sports this summer, as well as all the normal summer activities. We are excited for some new technologies to the practice as well.  We have just completed the final touches to our new website sooo....Welcome to our new and improved website.

We are excited to unveil our new website as one of our latest tool at Willis Dental to help make your experience at our office more enjoyable and user friendly.  I am going to attempt on a regular basis to write  "Docs's Thoughts" to keep you updated on office happenings, staff member news, and pointers on oral health items that may be of interest to you.  We hope you will enjoy this as a new part of our website.

We have added several online forms that can be filled out prior to coming in for your appointment.  You can do this at your convenience and either print them out and bring them into the office or you can email them to Kristi.  We also have given you the option to schedule your appointments online.  This will trigger a call from Kristi to confirm the appointment length and needed services to ensure that we are able to provide you with sufficient time to address all of your needs. We hope each of you are enjoying the sun and wish each a safe and enjoyable summer.
